DLF Foundation in partnership with India Water Partnership and INTACH held a workshop on “Capacity Building Workshop on Transforming Najafgarh Basin” at DLF City Club, Phase 4, Gurugram on 17th August 2017.
The purpose of the workshop was to develop a multi-stakeholder approach for the rejuvenation of Najafgarh Jheel, augmenting strategies for self-purification of drains and controlling the situation of the flood in Gurugram during monsoon. The long-term vision is be to develop a road map for the development of inland waterways in the Najafgarh drain.
NJD is the backbone of the drainage network in Gurgaon. It flows through the north-western part of Gurgaon. Excessive flooding has occurred in parts of Gurgaon over the years due to overflow and backflow from drains during the monsoon season. For instance, a 24 hour jam was reported in parts of Gurgaon due to flooding in 2016. It is of importance to deal with the situation strategically and in a holistic manner to resolve this problem affecting masses in Gurugram.
